Terms of Use

Last updated: 12 September 2026. This policy is written to be read, not endured. If anything in it is unclear, email us and we will explain it in plain words.

PsychologyWit is a personal growth and self development blog published at psychwit.com. The person responsible for the personal data described here, the “data controller” in the language of the GDPR, is [CONTROLLER FULL NAME].

This policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit psychwit.com, why we collect it, how long we keep it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It applies to this website only. Sites we link to have their own policies, and we are not responsible for them.

  • Newsletter. Your email address, when you submit a sign-up form. We use it to send the material you asked for and occasional posts. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Comments. Your name, email address and the comment itself. WordPress also records the IP address and browser user agent of anyone who comments, as a spam-prevention measure.
  • Email. Whatever you choose to include when you write to us, plus your address, so we can reply.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records the IP address, date and time, page requested, referring page, browser and operating system of every request. This keeps the site running and lets us spot abuse.
  • Analytics. With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to see which articles get read and how people find them. It sets cookies and assigns an identifier to your browser. Without your consent, no analytics runs at all.
  • Fonts. The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your IP address is visible to Google at the moment those font files are requested.

Cookies that are strictly necessary to deliver the site are set automatically, because the site cannot work without them. Everything else, analytics above all, is set only after you agree.

You choose when the consent banner appears, and you can change your mind at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer. Refusing is exactly as easy as accepting, and refusing costs you nothing: every article remains fully readable. A current, itemised list of the cookies in use is maintained on our cookie policy page.

  • Serving the site securely and keeping it available — our legitimate interest in running a working, non-abused website.
  • Sending the newsletter — your consent, given when you sign up and withdrawable at any time.
  • Publishing and moderating comments — your consent to publish, plus our legitimate interest in filtering spam and abuse.
  • Analytics — your consent, given through the cookie banner.
  • Replying to your email — our legitimate interest in answering people who write to us.
  • Keeping records we are legally required to keep — compliance with a legal obligation.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else advertising to you. We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract, and who may only use it to provide their service to us:

  • our hosting provider, which stores the site and its logs;
  • Google, for Analytics, Tag Manager and Fonts;
  • our email delivery provider, [EMAIL PROVIDER — to confirm once connected], which stores newsletter subscriber addresses;
  • our spam filtering service, where one is enabled on comments.

Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred there, the transfer relies on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or on an adequacy decision such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. You can ask us which mechanism applies to a particular provider.

  • Newsletter addresses — until you unsubscribe, then deleted from the active list.
  • Comments — kept indefinitely so that replies still make sense in context, and removed on request.
  • Analytics — for the retention period configured in Google Analytics, which is 14 months by default.
  • Server logs — for our host’s rolling window, typically a few weeks.
  • Emails you send us — for as long as the conversation is live, plus a reasonable period afterwards.

The GDPR gives you the right to ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, to have it deleted, to restrict what we do with it, to receive it in a portable format, and to object to processing based on our legitimate interests. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, and doing so does not make our earlier use of the data unlawful.

Write to contact@psychologywit.com and we will respond within one month. If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you can complain to the data protection supervisory authority in the country where you live or work.

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the age at which they can consent on their own in their country, which is between 13 and 16 across the EU. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

The site is served over HTTPS, administrative access is limited and protected, and we keep the software it runs on up to date. No website can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise.

When this policy changes we update the date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects what we do with your data, we will say so on the site rather than leave you to notice it.
